Skinny2 - thanks for the response. I share your feelings about the auto climate controls and have only operated on manual. Switching back and forth to troubleshoot the problem does not seem to resolve the issue. Might have to break down and have the dealer have a look.

Hose replaced. $0.53 for a foot and a half from the local auto parts shop. Might just be my imagination/wishful thinking, but I thought the truck idled smoother after I swapped the hose.

The tank is called a "pressure tank." The vacuum hose that is broken is Nissan #22320-EA200. Just measure the length you need, cut off a small piece and bring it to your local auto parts store. They'll sell you a length of vacuum hose (I would get a couple of extra inches to be on the saf...

With the cover off: Looks like it should connect to the tube directly to its left with the brown clip. Curious to know what its for. Looks easy enough to repair with the right tubes and connectors.
