Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

DIY-able if you have good tools and good skills… My go-to is usually AP/Eastern Catalytic, decent price, good quality, and (very importantly) they usually fit right without any screwing around. Thank you @VStar650CL. I apologize for being high maintenance. Although I’ve done a wide variety of repai...

97 Pathfinder SE O2 Question

There are two parts to my sad story: Part one: May 2023 I swapped my O2 sensors from my 97 Pathfinder. OBD-2 only picked up Sensor 2 bank 2 error. I decided to have all 4 sensors swapped with Bosch, everything was fine until November the car would take turns on selecting with sensor to throw on my C...

Re: Out of ideas

Oldie but goodie - situation update now my Bank 2 (sensor 1 + 2) are not getting shot up + today I discover the Sensor 1 + Bank one is getting read too along with the EGR + MAS Flow code.
I think my car needs an exorcism at this point.

Re: Radiator flush

Thanks! Unfortunately I will be draining through the bottom radiator hose since I got into an accident a few years back - the water cock is blocked (its an after market radiator as well).
I plan on doing this hopefully this weekend since we are suppose to get some rain next week here in So Cal.

Radiator flush

I have been putting this off for a while since I have the heads resurfaced. I started doing the flush before I was able to get it to 3 cycles. The last time I did it the water was still dirty, however I promise to do it again but always got something came up. Now I want to do this before the wet sea...

Re: Out of ideas

Thanks for the info, I think I am going to take it to a mechanic. I am tempted to see if I have a vacuum leak somewhere if that is the case, not sure how I went from 15 down to 7. An old timing belt that has been stretched and worn old with age, will retard your timing. Ugh!!!! So I have not gotten...

Re: Out of ideas

Too much advance will make the ECM dial back the power when it detects knock, so that could definitely limit your performance. You'll need a timing light to set it up perfectly, and the engine must be at the proper idle speed defined in the FSM. However, you can get it close just by turning the dis...

Re: Out of ideas

If the engine revs normally but those RPM's aren't being translated into movement, that's a transmission problem and not the engine. Sorry, it is more like the engine feels sluggish, wonder if it has to do with the spark adv been at 7 degrees vs been at 15 +/-2 normal range. I did refuel on Wednesd...

Re: Out of ideas

That's a huge improvement with the STFT for just unplugging and plugging back on the connectors. The harness connector contact pins may need a bit of cleaning with a shot of electrical contact cleaner spray to keep it right. The only other detail I would dial in is the ignition timing advance. At 7...

Re: Out of ideas

I just got back from the car, unplug the O2 and plugged them in, I guess we can say we are getting some vital signs that we want? These are the following readings after letting the engine come to operation temp (I notice the engine getting warmer faster, must need an oil change). I suspect the downs...

Re: Out of ideas

I guess the oxygen may be the issues right now, I got the EVAP monitor settle today since I stop by to refuel. I just want to know if it may be a fuse that may be faulty or blown, if so where can I see it? I guess to see the connectors, I have to disconnect the battery......again! So I did the scann...

Re: Out of ideas

What exactly to you mean by "OBD-2 still indicates lean on the Oxygen sensors"? Does your scan tool indicate fuel trim readings for both banks as a high positive percentage number or a low negative percentage number? What are your STFT and LTFT readings on both banks? Wondering if it was ...

Re: Out of ideas

Just got back from the mechanic ($360 later) I changed the IAC-V (found it on e-bay for $120) in which I changed the gasket with OEM as well. The car idling fine, no misfire, OBD-2 still indicates lean on the Oxygen sensors. I drove it 6 miles, decided to grab a bite stop by, the car just shut off o...

Re: Out of ideas

I stand by my first post on this. "The Nissan factory service manual, engine control section, page 25-29, is a good place to start. https://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual ... 7%2Fec.pdf Checking the fuel system pressure, fast idle cam inspection and adjustment, and idle speed/ignition timing/...
