Cool. I took my stock Pathy (with wore struts, leaking shocks & undersized tires!) on a couple of trips & actually made it UP Diablo Drop Off at night (it's supposed to be one way only, down) so your Pathy will do fine, you just have to go a little slower :D I'm heading to Johnson Valley on ...

Cool locations!

Nice pics. What locations are the old ruins, the cabin & the mills? I've been to Wall Street Mill on a photo shoot but I'd like to know where these other places are. I'm thinking of heading to Joshua Tree in April & would love to see these cool places. Names or GPS coordinates are fine. Thnx.

The 4x4 transfer case eats a lot of gas even when you're not in 4 wheel drive so that is a difference, but maybe your regular serving helps too. It's interesting that you got 3" of clearance, you're talking about the diff clearance right? I'm after a body lift (2" max on unibodies so I've ...

That's pretty good mileage, 20 mpg. I was getting about 12 mpg around town when I first got my 96. I need to do the plugs but I've used seafoam & installed a K&N washable filter. I'll have to see what the mpg is now.

Funny you should mention the steering rack, I had to replace the rack mounting rubbers as they had indeed rotted away. In fact they were non-existant! So that fixed one knocking sound. My rubbers had been affected by a leaky steering rack return pipe though. That's my next project. Thanks for the co...

All done

Good to hear it went ok. I didn't use any thread lock on the crank bolt, the way the engine turns its going to tighten anyway. As for the thermostat gasket, mine didn't come with a gasket (although I made one from gasket paper & used RTV on both sides) & everyone says you don't use a gasket ...

Air conditioning wiring

I'm putting some electric fans on my 96 Pathy & I need a connection to the ac clutch activation wire. It needs this connection to ensure the fans go on when the ac is switched on. I can't find a schematic anywhere, does anyone know what color wire is the power feed for the ac clutch???

Thnx.

Timing belt

Hows your project coming along? Just finishing the water pump, timing belt, tensioner & all other belts replacement on my 96. Don't worry about the AC pipe across the top of the cover, you can get the cover off without the pipe causing a problem. The only problem I had was undoing the 27mm crank...

Exploring, general offroad, that kind of thing. Nothing too "gnarly" as my Pathy is still pretty much stock at the moment. Saving my pennies for a lift & bigger tires. etc.
