List of the common defects, issues, repairs for 2005+ PFs

Can we please compile a list of the common defects, issues, repairs for 2005+ Pathfinders? I'm mostly interested in the issues that can affect all (or at least 80%) of North American PFs. I'm aware of the following: 1. Fuel Sending Unit (inaccurate gas gauge). Fix: replace it. 2. Coolant leaking int...

I'm getting a local shop in San Diego to do it. I copied your repair tip and gave them that paper. He was glad to have it, said that "more info is better than less info!". They have the tool and have done this before. The owner was glad that I had the TSB and new what was going on, said it...

Should a dealership replace the timing chain and/or guides?

I have a 2005 with 106,000 miles. I called a local mechanic whom I've used before about the whirring/whining sound when the RPMs increase and mentioned that it's most likely the timing chain guides needing replacement. He said they don't do that type of work. Is this deeper engine work than what a t...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I pulled a friends toyhauler tonight. He claims it weighs 3500lbs dry. I did not get out on a highway but he the road he lives on has a sizeable hill. With it floored it did not get over 40 mph going up the hill. Flat ground was OK. Braking could be an issue though. I t...

Will I be underpowered pulling a 5600lbs (loaded) trailer?

I have an '05 4x4 with 96K miles. I have airlift 1000s and two sets of airshocks on the rear (a pair on each side). I have not done the tranny mode. I have read over over this thread: http://thenissanpath.com/viewtopic.php?t=65&start=0 which has good information. The nuts and bolts of it is real...

I orderd a Reese hitch and installed it myself in 30 minutes. It came with bolts. I don't remember if it had the electrical harness or not. I use it to carry a dirt bike rack on the front. I love it.

I adjust the shocks as needed when I have a load or unloaded. The bags I tend to keep around 25-28 lbs. The place that did the shocks said the shocks could handle up to 80 lbs but under normal driving they suggested 35lbs. The shop is since out of business so I can't ask them my case of tire wear. I...

I shop told me there was "no alignment" possibilty on the rear PF. Not true?

New air shocks causing rear tires wearing on the inside.

Hi, I have Airlift 1000s and aftermarket airshocks installed on my 2005 PF. The rear tires are wearing along the inside edge with less wear gradually towards the centerline. Outside edge is normal wear. To me this indicates a kind of sagging. But looking at the level of the PF from the side the rear...

I finally went in and got this fixed. The problem was that the one-way check valve for the break booster was not holding pressure (vaccuum). It was replaced and I was out of there minus $125.

But why would the depth of pressing the pedal and therefor the switch cut-off be different if I were accelerating or coasting? Further, there is quite a bit of resistance when this problem occurs. I have to push harder on the pedal for it to move.

Cruise control hard to turn off when accelerating.

I have 76K miles on my '05. I noticed this weekend that if I'm accelerating via cruise control (i.e. trying to maintain speed on an incline or resuming after slowing down) that I have to push on the brakes quite a bit harder than I ever had before to disengage the cruise control. I have to push hard...

Hitch "torque rating" on the R-51? I'm at 1440ft-

The class III hitch on an '05 is rated at a 600lbs tongue weight. But does anyone know if there is a "torque rating"? I have a dual motorcycle carrier that goes into the receiver hitch of my Pathfinder. It has no wheels so the bikes are literally "hanging" off the rear bumper and...
