I've owned two Explorers before I purchased my 06 Pathfinder.I can't really say I had many problems with either of the the Explorers but I've had 0 problems with the Pathfinder.Overall I think the Pathfinder is a better vehicle. The Nissan engines are absolutely bulletproof.

I've got 65,000 miles on my 06 Pathfinder and have never used anything but 87 octane.Absolutely no need to use anything other than that.

I have mine changed at the dealer and they don't give me any problems about removing the plate.I complained to the service manager after two episodes of oil spots in my driveway. They gave me a free oil change and they've removed the plate ever since. It's the only way to to get the excess oil cleaned.

Definitely the skid plate issue.I used to have the same problem with every oil change. Now,I make sure they remove the plate when they change the oil. It's the only way to effectively clean the area.
