Re: Test Derive: Honda Passport and Jeep Grand Cherokee

About a year and half ago, I was looking to replace my 2006 Pathfinder. I test drove a 2018 Armada, 2017 4Runner, and a 2018 Grand Cherokee. I wasn't really happy with any of them, but the Grand Cherokee seemed the best of the 3 to me, and I almost pulled the trigger on it. But the dealer got shady ...

Re: Question about new fan clutch

Aftermarket fan clutches don't seem to work well in the Pathfinder. Best to go with genuine Nissan part for replacement.

Restrictive air filter?

I recently installed a new air filter in my 2012 Honda Civic 1.8L. It's a Denso filter purchased from Rock Auto. Driving with this new air filter felt different. Cruising at 50-60 mph then pressing down the accelerator a bit to speed up (without the tranny downshifting), the engine noise became much...

Re: Rocker rust

I had/have the same problem. A couple of years ago I tried sanding it a bit and covered with POR-15, then painted with some touch-up paint and clearcoat. It was bumpy, but the rust was covered and painted to match the truck. But that only seems to have been band-aid, as I'm seeing rust again now. Ma...

Re: Signing off...mostly

How do you like the 4Runner compared to the Pathfinder? I also may be replacing my 2006 Pathfinder soon, but I'm not crazy about anything out there. I was considering a slightly used 4Runner or even Armada. Amazingly, 2017-2018 Armadas and 4Runners I've seen are around the same price.

Market for early R51 Pathfinders?

How is the market for early R51 Pathfinders? I'm considering moving on from my 2006 this spring and was wondering what I could expect to get for it. It's a 2006 Pathfinder SE 4WD approaching 105,000 - so relatively low mileage. Of course, it does show the normal wear and tear of a 14 year old truck ...

Does the timing chain noise get quieter as the engine warms up? I have a noise which I believe may be the chain (based on reading threads like this one) that is very noticeable at start-up and initial driving, but it seems much quieter after driving for a while.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally silence the horn beep feature? I know there have been a couple of occasions where the horn no longer beeped when locking after my wife has driven the Pathy. From the manual: If desired, the horn beep feature can be deactivated using the keyfob. To deactivate: Pre...

Sounds like it's time for a new fan clutch.
Had to replace mine a few years ago. Go with a genuine Nissan replacement. I tried aftermarket first and wound up having to replace that with a Nissan.

I was able to fill up today without a problem. Hopefully it was the gas pump yesterday and not the truck.
I'll have to see if anything comes of the pending code.

Well, there's no check engine light yet, but there is a pending P0451 code.
I'll try filling up tomorrow.

Besides the P0448 code, did you also have trouble filling the gas tank? I had this issue a few months ago with the code and trouble filling the tank. I had the vent valve replaced (with the old style though, since it was cheaper), and that seemed to fix the problem. Everything has been fine, but now...

Finally got the truck into the shop. The AC was overcharged. They evacuated over 2.2 pounds of refrigerant and refilled with the proper 1.54 pounds + dye to check for leaks. Everything is working great now. I guess the gauge on the AC Pro can is basically junk. I would advise to leave those DIY rech...

Thanks smj. When I got home from work yesterday, I idled the truck in the driveway, and everything seemed OK - granted it was about 20 degrees cooler out than it was Sunday, but I don't recall the temp gauge going above half-way on Sunday. When I turned the AC on yesterday, the electric fan did kick...
