dryart, I think you're spot on. Apparently the recall IS NOT for defective sender units, like what most us are experiancing. Rather, the recalled vehicles suffer from defective fuel tanks. The fix just happens to be a change (adjustment) to the fuel senders float sensor arm. My actual problem appear...

Mine looked just like that, except 2 opposite sides of the joint looked like that. Needle bearings all crushed down to dust.

Interesting that yours was the rear though. Mine was the front TC side joint. I'm curious why it affects some fronts (most cases) and some rears.

Well, just had the truck up on jack stands, and made no sound while running in reverse (in the air).

I'm waiting to hear more on this recall before I do anything else. Replacing the Fuel sending unit requires the rear shaft to be removed, so I could kill 2 birds with one stone.

Well oddly enough, it doesn't seem to just exclude 05 models. Based on what does qualify, very few R51's actually make the list.

In the past 5 years of R51 production, on 7 months worth of production are included??? Something seems odd.

If you call, be sure to mention the fact that there is no difference (as far as I can tell from the parts listing) in part numbers from 2005 to 2006 on the fuel sender unit.
