I installed the insulators on mine. I figure Airlift puts them in the kit for a reason so why leave them off. I assume they are mainly there to protect that valve on the top of the bag? I am not sure though.
You have a pretty solid process you have listed. I can't say anything about those products because I haven't used them but I prefer using Mother's products. I think it'll be fine so I wouldn't bother since it's a spare. Usually a spare is only driven a short distance to get to a tire shop any way. Only real way to prevent this would be to start doing 5 tire rotations regularly.
