Re: UCAs - which one

Guys, maybe you know - which UCA best suites our Paths?? As I know, we have a choice of 3 different producers: PRG, Total Chaos, Calmini.

Sure, every of them will fit, but one or two times I've seen that some person would exchange one to another - why, I don't know.

Any suggestions, which one is better?

P.S. Probably some of them better painted or more tough..
Total Chaos UCA
PRG UCA
Calmini UCA

alright, when i first started looking at trucks, i was almost ready to buy an xterra... i did a lot of reading to see what upgrades were available. almost unanimously, people recommended the Total Chaos UCAs. i agree that our PF suspensions are different, but the UCA is identical between vehicles. TC UCAs have a zerk fitting to lube the bushings, everyone who bought them cited this feature as a major plus. i wouldnt recommend the PRG ones b/c i wouldnt think a heim joint will do as well as a bushing for the UCAs main hinge point. and as for calmini... you will probably find a lot of people that dislike calmini. plus, they arent even available yet.

maybe someone that has some actual experience with these UCAs can chime in!

These are good questions to ask.

Calmini has zerk fittings...I don't like the color...uses OEM ball joint, so is the cheapest....but you get what you pay for.

Total Chaos are beefy...

I am concerned about the heim joints as well...they are a tried and true mechanical system, but not sure... I think Ragpaoa may be able to give us his opinion here...

I will hopefully be going this way sometime in the late summer so info is always a plus...

Thanks, really valuable inputs. Will see - what others think, especially ragpaoa, because he tried whole setup I suppose ;-)

I'm worrying also, because of difficulty to import these toys to Russia, it's not as easy as to say so... So, should choose exactly what I need and I hope - the most durable and reliable.

Replaced the whole front struts, shocks and springs, UCA, and rear shocks.
Front components are Radflo 2.5 Extended internal reservoir shocks with Eibach 625 lbs springs and PRG UCA. Updated heim jointed swaybar links. The heim joints allow full articulation without binding.
For the rears, 1" aluminum PRG spacer, OME Med springs and Radflo 2.0 internal reservoir shocks and heim jointed sway links.
We are in the process of fine tuning the rears and measuring for even more exetended down travel. We believe we can get 10" of useable travel. Stock was about 6.5". Currently we are up to 8.125".
I kept the OME rear springs since Greg @ PRG says they are good stuff.

Yes, I should have it all done for the Death Valley trip. I'm compiling the pictures and should have them up tonight.

EDIT: sorry Steve, can't give you a price yet but I would safely bet around the 2K range for the whole setup. And for the ride ... I'll do a write up soon, but definitely better compared to the OME, and the OME were good.
ragpaoa,
What are your impressions of the prototype PRG setup?
I know you're busy, but we want pics!
cheers!

And I don't know by, but PRG still doesn't answer my questions, [email protected] is his correct email address? If is right they are not professional at all.

I think Rag only gets over to the local library to use the internet like once a week.

More likely once a month. I'm still waiting to hear about all the goodies.

Perhaps he doesn't have a digital camera, and has been working day and night chiseling the images onto stone tablets!!

"I traded in the Pathfinder for a 4-Runner."

To Those with OME...

Postby goblue90 » Mon May 25, 2009 9:53 am

Are longer brake lines required with the OME setup? I searched on the forum but nobody mentioned it... I assume they're not required, but wanted to double check. Thanks!
