Stock Battery Problems

Postby mw » Wed Aug 11, 2010 6:20 am

Bought an 09 SE in November. Love the vehicle. However, the stock battery is starting to worry me: it has died twice already. Once, I believe I left the door ajar, the second was just this morning after listening to the radio and charging cell phone. Both times the battery failed after about an hour. Now, I should say that I had the ignition on "ON" listening to the radio. Would it have lasted longer on Acc? Either way, shouldn't the battery be more robust? I had been interested in the Optima yellow/red tops and am thinking about going in that direction. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Replacing it with the Optima is a great idea.

leaving the car in "ON" engergizes a lot more of the car's electrical system as well as the HVAC system. (only the fan motor really, others depend on a running motor)
so yes ON will suck more juice than ACC.

Updated...my Optima experience.

I had an Optima red top. The first one lasted 2 years and 11 months. It was replaced free under warranty and the second one only lasted 2 years. I went back to a standard battery. Autozone Duralast Gold with 3 year free replcement. It was $79.
