OBDII Reader

Postby MonkeyMike » Thu Oct 28, 2010 9:27 am

Does Nissan have any manufacturer specific codes that can't be read by a standard (up to date) OBDII reader? My wife's Mini has a slew of BMW/Mini specific codes that can only be read by a factory code scanner, and some of the OBDII scanners get confused by the factory codes.

Basically, I'm just trying to figure out if I can buy a relatively generic OBDII scanner and have it pull codes and reset the eventual CEL on the PF. Something like an Actron or Equus scanner.

AFAIK the answer is No. I have 2x2006's and an 01 that have been read by several standard OBD II scanners. The scanners or accompanying documentation don't typically display the correct corresponding information though. If that's what you mean. I just google it or look through the FSM to verify the code and the remediation process.
