2006 Pathfinder question

Postby dawgn86 » Fri Jul 22, 2011 8:25 am

Glad I found this site...2006 Pathfinder, automatic, 4.0 V6. I am going to change diff fluid and put new serpentine belt on this weekend...

1. what fluid does the rear diff need/ synthetic 75/90?

2. does the Pathfinder have a tensioner or an adjustment bolt for the belt.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

That should be the correct oil. If you peek in the owners manual you can confirm it is correct for your vehicle.

Also it has an auto tensioner. I recommend replacing it too at the same time.

Ok...replaced the serpentine belt this morning...not too hard, not that easy..lol...I didnt use a 14mm socket to releaset the tension, I used a 3/8" ratchet drive and a breaker bar and pushed it left. After the new belt was threaded around the fan, you have to bring back about half of it to go around the bottom pulleys....but it's on, ...the old belt had 86,000 miles on it but still looked in great shape. I am keeping as a spare just in case.

Sorry..I am not a mechanic...but you have to remove the air plenum in the center..2 clams on each tube and 2 screws...set it off to the right.

I used a 3/8" ratchet socket wrench in the belt tensioner, pushed it left and then just tied off my breaker bar since I was alone. took the old belt off and replaced with the new one.....make sure the belt is seated properly on the pulleys....

LOL  simple ..no...but if you take your time, you should be ok.

Hint: dont drop any wrenches down below the fan area...you play hell retrieiving them....

does anyone know how much fluid is needed for the front/rear diffs? i saw in the owners manual the weight that should be used but it had no mention of how much is needed.

sorry..I meant pints..I had seen that somewhere and I see now someone posted it.

My daughter has a 2003 Xterra and the rear drive is about 2x the size of the Pathfinder...
