GPS and computer recall

Postby Vez » Fri Feb 08, 2013 7:46 am

My dealer called me about GPS and computer recall which is actully an add-on to update the system so he can reflect the 2012 - 2013 roads map, POI, local weather and traffic status. It took less than hour to update the system.

Does the nav system operate from a DVD or is everything loaded to the computer?

I traded a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica for my Path and it had a dedicated DVD drive under the cargo bin in the back for the GPS maps. To update the maps, you had to buy a new disc which ran about $200. I never bothered because I have a Garmin which I have lifetime updates for a one time cost of $80. I connect it to my computer 4 times a year and the updates download automatically.

If the maps for the Path nav system are written to the computer, can you update them without going to the dealership?

Don't need to know for any specific reason as my Path does not have nav. Just curious.
