Going from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17

I have a stock '08 V6SE. It looks like going up to that size will get me a tire about 1" great diameter.
For those who have made such a switch, any issues with rubbing? What impact if any have you seen on mpg? Any other issues?

I went to a 265/70/17 mud terrain and had no problems, just a drop in mpg. I get about 17 highway and 15 city, it would probably be better if I went with a lighter all terrain tire though.

Did you run the larger tires before you got your lift? If so, was there any rubbing or impact on articulation?

Im running the bigger size also. Clearance no problem. Braking and acceleration definetely are sacrificed.

I have an '07 LE and went from the stock 265-65-17 to 285-70-17s. Thats 30.6" up to 32.7". Had to hit the front wheel wells with a heat gun and push things back a little (also known as the melt mod) but I ran those tires for a few weeks before I put my lift on and had no issues at all. There are a bunch of threads about this stuff, but 33" is basically the biggest you can run without doing anything but the melt mod

Braking is slightly affected, but better rotors and pads balance that out. Acceleration is affected too, but the intake manifold spacer more thsn balances that out. Freeing up some air and/or exhaust will help that as well

Mpg definitely declined from 18 to about 15 in my day to day driving. But with all of the other mods, it jumped back up to 17. Not bad really

why not just go to a 275/65 or 285/65 size tire?

Not a lot of choices in those sizes and most are expensive as well. 265/70-17 is a very popular tire size and up until a couple years ago it was cheaper than the 265/65. Not sure when that changed but when I had my '05 Tundra I bought 70's because they were $100 cheaper per set. The did impact mpg and handling though so next time I just coughed up the extra bucks.

Hmmm which tire would be bigger...er...taller: 275/65 or 265/70?

When I upgraded from my stock tires 265/60 I went to 275/65. I gained an easy inch. I had thought about going to 285/65 but they were a lot more expensive. I noticed the jeep crowd uses 70's a lot.

265/70/17 is 31.61".

275/65/17 is 31.07".

The 275 tire is wider (obviously) and the 70 tire is a higher sidewall (obviously). The higher sidewall would be better for offroad purposes and not quite as stiff for road driving

I'm a fan of tall skinny tires. A tire size that I am considering is a 245/75R17. It gives about the same height (31.5"+/-) as a 267/70R17 but is narrower.

Or if you want taller yet, check out the 255/75R17. That tire is a full 32" and in some tires (GY MTR) can be up to 32.5" Thats about as tall as you can get and keep the same width tire on the Pathfinder.
