Will 4-speed auto swap with 3-speed auto?

If this has been talked about please point me in the right direction. I've been searching but haven't found any threads that discuss this.

I currently have an 87 3.0L with a 3 spd auto-tranny that's on it's way out. I was wondering if the 4 spd (L4N71B) auto-tranny is a direct swap or at least can be swapped?

The transmission sites say it'll fit but I would like to know if anyone has experience with it.
