replace power antenna with stubby?

replace power antenna with stubby?

My power antenna finally snapped off of my 98 Pathfinder three years after losing a fight with a deer. Can I just unscrew the remains of the metal antenna, clip off the plastic geared wire, and replace it with a stubby one? If so, any recommendations of a stubby to order?

The power antennae mast is replaceable. Remove the top nut and turn the radio on and pull the antennae mast out of the power antennae motor. Feed the plastic track of the new antennae mast into the power antennae motor, turn off the radio, and the motor will pull the antennae mast in (if it doesn't fully retract the full mast, that's fine). Install the top nut and turn the radio on and the mast will fully extend and should fully retract when off. The Nissan P/N is: 28215-ZL80A and runs about $35 online. Refer part code "27962+A" on the part diagram linked below:
