Is smartkey and regular remote interchangeable?

Is smartkey and regular remote interchangeable?

Postby Wineshop » Thu Apr 09, 2015 3:50 pm

Hi. First time post!! My wife lost her smartkey to our 2010 Pathfinder. Dealer wants A LOT for a new one and to program it. My question is - can I purchase a regular keyless remote for a 2010 Pathfinder, (which I can program myself) and use that? And then get a copy of the actual key to use to start it? We have a backup smartkey we can use. This would just be the backup to the backup.

Thanks. My apologies if I asked this in the wrong section.

Welcome to the forum. As for a regular key and remote, I'm not sure if anyone has done it, but it sounds plausible. You might have to step out on a ledge and give it a try. I know you can buy regular key fobs from most auto parts stores such as Autozone.

Here's the regular program instructions for a 2008. I don't think there's a lot of difference between an 08-12.
