New guy with a 1995 4 doors Pathfinder

Postby Izzy » Mon Sep 15, 2014 9:47 am

Hello, I'm just a new guy with a Pathfinder, I just recently bought it, good shape minor cosmetic things to fix, no oil or whater leaks, with 215000 miles,

then I just realice it has a Nissan VG engine,

questions,
how do I know what engine it has? VG30, VG30E, VG33?
I'm pretty sure a wise thing to do will be to replace the timing belt, water pump and termostat,

do you guys have a prefer link for OEM parts or close to that quality?

I liked the PF and well looking forward to keep it around for another couple of years.

thanks in advance

Izzy

You should have a VG30E, which has multi-port fuel injection. Early WD21's had VG30i engines with throttle body injection. The VG33E didn't appear until the R50 model in 1996. Yes, I would replace the timing belt if it hasn't been done, recently. When I do one, I get the Gates Timing Belt and Component Kit w/ Water pump from Rockauto.com. I'll get the thermostat, two front cam seals, one front crank seal and three drive belts from Nissan. I get great prices and service from 1stAAANissanParts.com. Any green or "works for all colors" anti-freeze will work just fine. I'll also often replace the coolant bypass hose and radiator hoses if they are showing a lot of age and I prefer to get them from Nissan, especially the bypass hose. Sometimes, I'll find the welsh plug just under the right bank cam seal is seeping or leaking coolant. To reseal this, you'll need a 17MM allen socket in 1/2" drive. Remove the plug, clean the threads and coat with RTV sealant, reinstall and torque to 50 ft/lbs. IIRC, you need a 5.5MM allen wrench for the tensioner.

Tranny Swap

Postby 1Stryker1 » Tue May 05, 2015 5:32 pm

Since you guys are discussing '95's I have a question. I have a '95 2WD automatic that needs replacing soon. I have a chance to buy a '92 with a rebuilt tranny (engine bad) and wondered if the transmission will swap without issue? Have no idea if these are WD21 or what. Thanks in advance.
