Tire size? 255/65-16 or 245/75-16

Postby hd54kh » Thu Jul 19, 2012 1:40 pm

My daughter need to get some new skins, the local tire guy has the 245/75-16 in stock but her 02 Pathfider has 255/65-16 what difference would she expect? She will be driving about 700 interstate miles to visit and the rest in some mountainous snowy area of New Yuck (during normal winters).

I know there are some tire guys much smarter than me so thanks in advance.

Thanks - Terry

the 245/75-16 (30.5 inch diameter) is a bit larger than what she has on now (29 inch diameter)
let him try installing one front tyre first, and make sure there is no rubbing when you turn right/left all the way.

check this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

there is negligible difference in speedo adjustment and mpg

Also, the new tire tread will be 10mm narrower than her stock tires. Why can't he just order the correct size? Most tire dealers can order tires for next day delivery..
