Transmission fail at 143,000

Postby gogriz91 » Sat May 28, 2016 3:17 pm

Bought new in 2005, (SE-Off Road). Kept thinking to myself "there but for the grace of God go I" when I read about transmission problems. Transmission started hard shifting into 2nd, would hesitate under load and vibrate. Took it to a dealer strictly to replace the fluid, didn't tell them about the hesitation. New fluid cured it for about 10 miles so off to the family mechanic where, $3500 later I have a replacement transmission with a 3 year warranty.

Whatever replaces this will be a manual that's for sure.

It's not the automatic transmission that's the problem, but the poorly made radiator by Calsonic.

Along with manual transmissions comes other major maintenance items like clutches, pedal springs, hydraulic resevoirs, and the general inconvenience of having to shift all the time. Some people like that though... :)

Replacement transmission came with a replacement radiator and Nissan fluid plus a 36 month warranty.

While a manual transmission will require maintenance, it's a lot less electronics intensive and doesn't require cooling, I don't mind shifting either, my 240 has a close ratio 5-speed that's a blast around town.

Did you have original stock radiator still in your 2005 when transmission failed, or had it been replaced before?
