Have a 2010 Rogue , am definitely exhibiting the symptoms listed on NTB10029, grinding from rear during low speed turns.

Was hoping someone could direct me to the pdf of the bulletin?

It doesn't look like a cheap nor fun fix to do!

Thanks for that SMJ!

So after reading the bulletin, the parts list seems to call for a part that is no longer available.

Any clues on this? Nissan PN 38761-JP20A

Was thinking maybe I would take it in to the stealer and see what the charge might be...

The part number you listed is for the Murano. The Rogue coupler is 38741-JG20A, which has been replaced by 38741-JG20B.

Hey SMJ

So do you think its worth pulling apart to see if there is something wrong with the connector?

You'll be at a thousand bucks by the time you throw in the seals, gaskets/sealant and oil. I've never worked on one, so I can't really tell you what the best option is. If you can deal with the down time, it might be worth taking it apart to see if it's something you can fix. That's gotta be your call!

Hey SMJ,

So I'm reviewing my options:

1. Fix it. Anywhere from $400-1200 depending on availability of used parts.

2. Remove propeller shift for all but winter season. Is this viable? I'm willing to do the work, just not sure if this is a gold idea.

3. Do nothing and live with the noise. What would the long term outcome be for this? Is my different going to grenade itself soon.

Let me know if I missed anything.

Thanks.

I'm not aware of what the actual issue is that causes the noise, but, I do know the part has been updated. For that reason, I would not go with used parts. Why replace a faulty part with another potentially faulty part? I suppose you could disconnect the rear shaft, but I would imagine that would have an affect on your VDC if you should ever need it, The only option I can recommend it to fix it right with the updated part, albeit, that's a pretty expensive part.

after reading on some rogue-specific sites, I have disconnected the connector going to the Electrical Coupling on the diff.

This illuminates the 'AWD' light on the dash, effectively disabling the AWD system. And no more grinding when I turn.

I was concerned that it would be causing significant wear to the differential. Now I have some time to figure it out.

SMJ,

What are your thoughts on getting a different carrier? Looks like compatibility is wide, and they are available for about $550 USD from LKQ. I found this one from a 2014:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/08-15-Nissan-Rogue-Rear-Carrier-Assembly-18K-Miles-OEM-LKQ-/191955861570?fits=Year%3A2010%7CModel%3ARogue&vxp=mtr&hash=item2cb1760042

Was wondering if there is a way to tell when/if a change was made to the coupler, so that if I get a salvaged carrier, that it will have the new coupler in it?

Winter is coming!

Any other ideas short of replacing the coupler I could try on this? There is not alot of info out there regarding the diagnosis and repair of this component, and the component itself doesn't seem to be widely available either.

found a rear carrier her in Winnipeg from a 2010 with 84k kms on it for $400 CAD.

Doesn't quite do what I want, ie I wanted a newer one with potentially updated parts. But at least I know where the starting point is...

Yeah, it's hard for me to say because being away from Nissan for so long (2003), I'm not sure how widespread a problem it is, meaning is it one of those issues that only affects a few or is it an issue that affects them all with AWD, it's just a question of when? My gut feeling is that it's the former as I haven't really heard much chatter on two of the other Nissan forums I frequent, which are open to all Nissan models.
