Amount of Brake Fluid for Flush/Bleed

Postby C » Wed Aug 24, 2016 2:22 am

Searched and couldn't find anything specific...

How much brake fluid to fully flush the system then bleed?

Want to make sure I don't buy too much/not enough.

Going to go with DOT 4 and probably something 'fancy' (and overkill) like Pentosin or ATE, since the price on Amazon per liter/quart seems to be less than the regular brands with lower wet/dry boiling points.

Thanks!

Found out for myself. :-)

Couldn't find the spec for brake fluid capacity in the owner's manual or Haynes manual. (Maybe it's in the factory service manual? I wasn't able to check.)

Anyway, 1 liter or quart is plenty, with some left over for good measure. (1 liter = 33.814 fluid ounces/1 quart = 32 fluid ounces)

Went whole-hog with ATE Typ 200 Dot 4. 500 F dry/388 F wet boiling points- impressive. In normal driving, it is supposed to extend a 1 year change interval to 3. $18.50 for 1 liter from Amazon, a Prime item, in a very nice metal can with an authenticating hologram, etc.
