Sorry to hear about your water related issues!
What exactly happened to the hubs/wheel bearings?

I've gone through some deep water and mud myself and luckily haven't had any problems yet. One muddy "puddle" was almost 3 feet deep! :twisted:

I just bought the ARB diff breather and it comes with 4 connections (front diff, rear diff, trans and transfer case).

But I hadn't considered the hubs being an issue! :shock:

Hi guys, sorry to bring up a old thread, but...

I am looking at doing the Mojave Road trail at the beginning of summer and I feel fairly prepared for everything but a bit unsure about this wading depth business.

I have a 2012 LE V6. I has a 33" tire and a 2" Ironman 4x4 lift. The water is between 20-36" deep depending on the time of the year.

Thoughts?

PS, does anyone make a specific diff breather kit for the pathy?

I would look inside your front wheel well at how low the air intake dips down inside the fender. I can't recall. It's not very low, but it's not at the top of the hood either.

Maybe check the Frontier and XTerra forums? Except for the rear differential all of the other considerations should be the same...

I have a fully sealed Ironman 4x4 Snorkel. My issue would be either electronics or water ingress.

Here is my 2 cents.
Its a best guess but I think an educated one:
Even w/o the snorkel our engine is moderately safe.
The intake is almost up to a mans chest!

So for emergency purposes, (getting out of a hurricane flood, zombie apocalypse, getting out of a flash flood your suddenly in etc) our wading depth is quite decent in that its not easy to ingest water into our engine and destroy unless the water is quite high.

BUT unless there is a good reason the 40mm is probably the right number, if you want to wade and not get into trouble down the road mechanically.

So no frivolous boating or near boating, its not all just about the engine but also about avoiding undue repair bills from accessories and other parts of the vehicle .... but at least in an emergency a lot of extra wading depth clearly is available to get you out of trouble.. though you may pay for it down the road.
