Cost of bump stops?? $300 or am I getting ripped off

Postby vt_scratch » Thu Feb 23, 2017 11:20 am

Hey guys, new here- just bought a 98 pathfiner chilkoot with 127,000km on it for a good price.

It's in the shop now getting the timing belt done for the first time, and also the rear springs replaced. When I took it to the shop the mechanic suggested we check out the bump stops and see their condition as now would be a conveneint time to replace them.

Sure enough one had fallen right out and was just sitting in the coil. The mechanic said nissan is the only one who makes them for this vehicle and they usually cost around $300 (I'm assuming for a set or at least pair...) but he would get back to me.

This seems really expensive for some rubber... is this accurate? I'm in Vancouver, BC Canada by the way if that changes anything.

Thanks a lot :)

If we are referring to the rear suspension, Nissan calls them "bound bumpers." In the USA, they MSRP for $68.12 each and sell for about $50 each +shipping from online sites, like NissanPartsDeal.com.

I believe you have to remove the rear coil springs to R&R the bound bumpers, if I remember correctly, but it's been a while since I did one.

Probably late response, but yes, the springs have to be removed to replace them.

But $300 is a rip off, regardless if that's CAN or USD. OE ones (p/n 55240-0W010) are about ~$50/ea from some online dealers, and aftermarket ones by Febest (p/n ND-020) are available on Amazon.com for <$30 USD each.

A quick question regarding this topic, I assume that by now you have replaced these bump stops in your ride. Which parts did you buy?
I need to replace mine but as you know, any parts that come from the US get a nasty import fee. Normally, the more expensive OE parts are better than the aftermarket options. Is it worth the extra 50 bucks from the OE or will the Febest due just fine (a piece of rubber???)

Any insight regarding this would be nice, thank you

Delayed reply, sorry.

It's just a piece of rubber. I bought OE at one point a couple years ago, but if I had known about the Febest, I would've just bought those and pocket the $40 savings.
