4 wheel drive question

Postby m.powerpt » Wed Mar 15, 2017 8:23 am

I tend to take a lot of back roads to work so during snow or icy conditions i will often use the 4WD. However once i get to the hghway portion of my commute and the roads are a little better groomed, I switch back to 2WD. however even when i am going straight, no braking, no turns, the icon that shows how many wheels are being used continues to blink for a while. Im not talking about the 4x4 light, i mean the wheel indicator itself. Is this a problem? the 4x4 light does not come on, so according to the manual everything is fine. but strikes me as odd that the indicator icon blinks for as long as it does.

If the indicator is still blinking it means its still in 4wd but trying to switch back. Mine usually takes alot longer to get out of 4wd because of my modifications so all i do is at about 20-25mph i go into nuetral and let the truck coast and usually switches back quicker.

It's a little stubborn on my 2008, as well. Even putting it in neutral and coasting usually doesn't work. What does seem to work for me is stopping the vehicle, putting the trans in reverse and backing up about 20 feet.

Yes this! I have had to do the reverse trick a few times.

With the last snow storm we got a few days ago, I've been in and out of 4WD a lot lately. Mine seems to completely get out of 4WD after I make a turn. It just keeps blinking if I'm going straight.

My experience as well. The second I make a pretty good turn, the indicator will stop blinking. It will blink forever if driving in a straight line.
