White smoke from exhaust and engine bay

Postby peteknok06 » Sat Jun 03, 2017 6:47 pm

I recently replaced my valve cover gaskets, and oil cooler gasket on my 02 pathfinder(2wd v6 3.5). After starting the car and letting it sit for about 5-10 minutes I noticed a small amount of white smoke coming from the passenger side of the engine and from the exhaust. There was also water coming from the exhaust which I can only assume is condensation since it had now smell and felt like water. Can someone help me diagnose this?

Could a misfire be causing the smoke?

You probably have a small amount of oil that leaked onto the exhaust manifold and now is burning off. The white smoke and water coming from the tailpipe is normal just after startup as that's the condensation from the muffler evaporating. A lot of white smoke after warm up is not normal from the tailpipe, that usually indicates a defective head gasket.
