How bad is this rear brake rotor

Postby minghi » Fri Sep 01, 2017 9:10 am

Hi, My wife took our '11 pathy to the local inspection place and they said it failed safety because the rotors were worn down below specs. I looked at it once she drove back home and think it's still good but I'm not sure; I've checked pads before and they were good but I'm not sure how to check the rotors. Here's couple pictures attached.

Measure the rotors' thickness with a caliper.
According to smj, http://www.thenissanpath.com/viewtopic. ... 748ea5837f, the minimum thickness for the front rotor is 24.5mm (0.965") and rear rotor is 12mm (0.472").

But according to the tech manual for the 2011 its 26mm(1.024) and 16.0mm (0.630").

Simply - if the groove between shiny and rusty area is near to 1mm on any side, then rotors are toast. Not just for inspection, but for your safety. Thinner rotors overheat and cool down when driven over a poodle faster, so there's mush more danger of warping or even cracking.

Thank you both for replying. I looked at a youtube video online for changing rotors and couldn't believe it was so easy. Only trouble I'd in actual was removing the two 18mm bolts (they were rusted pretty bad on the head) and the rotor was rusted and almost falling apart near the edges. These were never changed and the truck has 86k miles on it, so I guess it's been overdue.. overall glad I changed them out while doing the pads (these oem's lasted exactly 3 years or 50k miles)
