Idle Air Volume Learning (will not work)

Postby MarkSheriff » Wed Jun 08, 2016 12:46 pm

two days ago i cleaned the throttle body, maf and dropped in a new air filter, normal maintenance stuff i wanted to get done. initially i did not want to touch the TB but after inspecting it i found it was pretty dirty and i cleaned it out using throttle body cleaner and a microfiber towel.

i did move the throttle valve manually and clean behind it and everywhere i could but i did not remove the throttle body from the intake manifold.

after putting everything back together and driving 12 miles, i get the check engine light with code P0507 -Idle Air Control System RPM Higher Than Expected.

so i followed all procedures of the relearn:

1. Reset ECU

2. Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning

3. Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

4. Idle Air Volume Learning

many times without any luck, no matter what the rpm will not drop below 800-900 rpm and i can hear my truck idle high with my exhaust setup.

called a local Nissan specialist and he says i may have screwed up my Tb by manually moving the plate and i should never do this. the plate/valve moved pretty smooth and did not seem like anything was wrong during cleaning, but is it really that sensitive, could i have really broke it and would i need a new one? no matter what i try it would not take the learning procedure.

the dilemma is to have the shop use the consult II to relearn the TB for $80(no guarantees because we don't know for sure that mine is really damaged or not) or do you guys think i really do need a new TB and do the relearning procedure again?

just wanted to update everyone because i got the idle air volume fixed, during the idle air volume learning procedure after you press the gas pedal 5 times, i had to wait 10 seconds and NOT 7 SECONDS as stated in all the procedures, i tried over 20 times following the procedure and it did not work when waiting 7 seconds, i said to myself let me try 10 seconds and bam it work and i watched the car calibrate the idle and the rpm's dropped.

In my experience, they can be a real pain to relearn at times. I believe there was a TSB put out be Nissan in regards to this, but I don't have the number or TSB on hand. There are some very specific parameters that have to be within range and if they aren't, the process won't complete. I have manually opened the throttle plate on these TB's and have never broken one by doing it, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. I've had less more problems relearning on my 2008 than I have on my 2006. When I can't get it to complete after a couple of tries, I just leave it and drive the vehicle and it usually straightens out on its own eventually.

Thank you for your response, man ive tried this process countless times now with all parameters being met. Cant get the rpm to drop even a little. Mpg is down to 13 and the truck downshifts rough. Really dont want to continue driving like this so i went ahead and got a new tb and will see how the relearn goes on that, maybe its just my luck that i actually damaged mine, ive read you arent supposed to move it while electricity is still hooked up.

I had the tb connected and the battery still connected also, maybe that was where i went wrong?

So cleaned my TB while everybody said not too and had to do the procedure 20 times and got it to work with the 10 second wait instead of 7.
Hope this helps someone else like it did me.

Had to do this the other night when I got the truck back from the shop that replaced the alternator. My trusty old mechanic couldn't leave it alone and cleaned the TB up right good. But afterwards I was at about 1400rpm at idle and getting a P0507 high idle SES code.

I looked up the relearn procedure online and had it done on the second try. I believe the site I was reading from said 10 seconds.

Well there was a tutorial on here that said 7 seconds and people said it work just not for me.
