Replacing Radiator on a 2008 SE, reconnecting trans lines

Postby hesham1 » Thu Jun 14, 2018 12:40 am

I purchased a Denso radiator to repace the OEM radiator on my 08 SE 4wd, which has the radiator bypass to protect the transmission (124k miles now). I no longer have the transmission lines for the radiator, but I want to reconnect them now that I'll have a new radiator that should hopefully last the remainder of the life of the pathy without any leaks (I researched the Denso radiator and it does not seem to have the problem the calsonics had).

I'm going to purchase some generic oil cooler lines to reconnect the lines for the transmission fluid to the radiator, can someone verify the following:

-5/16" diameter hose?
-what length do i need for each piece? Im assuming I can buy a 4 foot length and that should be sufficient for both hoses?
-hose clamps - what kind should i use? The nissan OE style clamps seem ok.

Thanks!

5/16" (or 8MM) transmission cooler hose is the correct size and 4' will be plenty. You "may" need to pick up some new worm gear type clamps as the aftermarket hose may be a litter smaller on the outer diameter than the factory hoses.

The Denso radiator is installed, no fitment issues whatsoever. Reconnected the trans cooler line after the OEM was previously bypassed, very easy. Did a transmission drain and fill while I was at it, and got 5 quarts to drain out (which makes me wonder if it was overfilled last time, I'll have to keep an eye on that). 2 gallons of premixed blue Nissan coolant went back in, which is strange considering the manual calls for 3.5 gallons (with rear AC). Will update as I put miles on the pathy with the new radiator. Overall happy with the Denso, especially at $110 on amazon.

Two gallons is typical. You never get the rest of the coolant that's in the rear heater and lines and residual in the block.
