Should I Use Old Transmission Fluid?

Postby sandman7445 » Tue Jul 24, 2018 4:56 pm

So I’ve got some genuine Nissan trans fluid I bought a five years ago. Long story short I bought enough for a full flush and ended up only doing a drain and fill. So I’ve got 6 or 7 quarts that are sealed and never been used. Which brings me to my question, would that fluid still be ok to use after five years? I’d hate to throw it away since it cost me like $9 a quart.

Even if it had an expiration date, it should last forever. Since most people never change their transmission fluid and cars aren't breaking down right and left, sitting in a bottle for that long without being mashed in between gears it should be exactly like when it was bottled.

Ditto. As long as it is still sealed, it should be perfectly fine.
