2006 Pathy - Cat Converter - Heat Shield Needed?

Postby linarema » Sun Aug 12, 2018 12:05 pm

My mechanic replaced the passenger side Cat Converter and Oxy Sensor. He said the Heat Shield was soldered on and would need to be soldered on again but he couldn't do it and referred me to a place he's used. Another mechanic as this place said no need to replace the heat shield as no rubber or plastic parts are close to it - so no need to worry.

Does anyone here have any experience with the heat shield dilemma?
Thanks for the help!

mine has 3 bolts that hold it on...I have heard of the bolts breaking off and many folks have to cut the shield off to remove it. I sprayed mine with PB Blaster and my bolts came off.

Thanks Dawgn86! Going shieldless for now. Will see how that works out. I do have the old shield and it definitely looks like it was soldered on at some point. I've owned since new.

Yes - V6 4.0 original owner. Passed emissions test with the new cat and ox sensor. Just worried about damaging other components going without the heatshield.
