I'm hearing a noise from the left front at about 40mph. It could best be described as a mechanical interference noise like a rotating part hitting a stationary part. It comes and goes with speed change but not with braking or cycling 4WD on/off. It does not change with load like a wheel bearing. I'm baffled. Any thoughts?

Without actually hearing the noise, it'll be hard to diagnose on a forum level. Wheel bearing hubs are a fairly common failure on these vehicles. Perhaps a rock or pebble got stuck in the brake assembly? You may have to jack up and do a visual inspection while turning the wheel to figure out what it is.
