Valve cover gaskets

Postby dawgn86 » Thu Sep 20, 2018 1:59 pm

My 2006 V6 valve cover gaskets are leaking ( have been for a year or so ) and I am going to look at doing this job myself. The PF has 180k miles and plan on putting new plugs, PCV and hose while doing this. Also a new intake plenum gasket

Should I plan on new valve covers as well? Plan on using all Nissan parts.

As always, I looked for a post on this, but didnt see one. Any tricks or tips or a write up anywhere?

Thanks

The gasket is part of the cover. they don't sell them separately.

I've seen a few YouTube bids showing the valve cover gaskets as a separate item. About $18 per side. ONE Nissan part

Sonofab... Yep ur right.

I was thinking of the spark plug tube seals. They are part of the cover.

It's the ol' damned if you do, damned if you don't! If you want to avoid having leaking spark plug tube seals in the near future and doing the job again, then replace the covers and the gaskets. Be wary of any aftermarket covers, as I have heard of some issues with them on other Nissan engines. I would also replace the PCV valve while I have the right side off if it hasn't been done, already, and get new seals for the upper intake plenum. It's also a good time to replace spark plugs and/or install an XTP plenum spacer, if you haven't already and have been thinking about it.
