replacing the fuel pump

Postby Joshpath » Sun Dec 23, 2018 8:35 am

I'm lookin to replace the fuel pump for my 2006 nissan pathfinder. I just want to know what tools I will need and that I hear this particular job isn't easy.

It's a genuine chore!
I did it on my 2005.
The fuel tank has to be removed for access to the pump, and it's recommended to remove the driveshaft for access to the tank.
I did it with the driveshaft in place, but it is definitely more difficult.
The only really special tool is the wrench to unlock & re-lock the fuel pump retaining ring.

Now that I have to do the same thing on my 2nd R51, I'm actually considering cutting an access hole through the floor of the truck to access the pump directly, then carefully re-sealing the hole.
I came across a video on youtube illustrating this method......

Ordinarily, I like to do my repairs "by the book", however, having done this job once already and considering the difficulty and time involved, and mess, and climbing around under the truck for hours, I may very well take the "short cut".

I'd be interested in any comments on this alternate procedure from anyone who has done this.
Anyone?
