Bottom wishbones

Postby Graham W » Thu Mar 28, 2019 2:14 pm

Having the bottom front wishbones renewed next couple of weeks.
The bottom ball joints are shot, and on inspection the wishbone bushes are too.
So it makes sense to do the job in one.

Question is are the wishbones just bolted on or do they
have the cams too? Lower wishbones.
Cos if so I may as well order up new bolts and bits ??

Opinions welcome

Not sure how they did it where you live; in the USA, the lower "wishbones," or as we call, "control arms," came with the eccentric bolts in 2005 but went to regular bolts 2006-2012. If the camber or caster was found to be out of spec during an alignment, the regular bolts would need to be replaced with a camber/caster bolt kit. If you have to replace those bolts, you mind as well get the eccentric bolts. If the ball joints are shot as well as the bushings, you might consider replacing the entire wishbone. In the USA, Moog, Dorman Products and Mevotech all offer new wishbone assemblies.

All booked in for next week to have the entire wishbone to be replaced.
Have ordered new eccentric bolts cam nuts x 4 from Milner Off-road so they
are new and can be adjusted easily for alignment after it’s all done.

Gonna compliment the front end with some monroe rear shocks as I think
they are a bit soft after being a passenger in the back at the weekend!

Monroe Reflex are monotube shocks and are pretty good. Over here, we mostly go with Bilstein 4600's.

Monroe Adventurers ordered.

I believe better than OEM, but not as hard as the offroad versions, a nice compromise.

the new wishbones being done today, new eccentric bolts and i'll do the rear shock before having alignment done.

Hopefully will notice a difference.

Well that’s all done, so new bottom wishbones and today fitted the rear shocks, Monroe adventure.

Apart from it doesn’t seem to wander on the road so much, it’s hard to tell
if there’s an ‘amazing’ difference. Time will tell with the family all bundled in and the hound also in the back 😀
Will book it in to get all re-aligned ASAP.

Mmmm what’s next to play with ? Lol
