95 Pathfinder - Rooftop Tent

Postby jermiey » Sun Aug 31, 2014 1:05 pm

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with Hard Shell roof top tents for their Pathfinder?

Something like this: http://www.bigfoottents.com/Hard-Shell- ... _c_13.html

Any reccos or thoughts would help. Thanks.

My only thought comes from the 80lb maximum load rating on the factory roof rack on my 95 Pathfinder. That's not to say the roof wouldn't support it (I hope the roof would support more than 80lb, otherwise I would hate to see what the Pathy would look like in a rollover) but at the same time I know the sheet metal is pretty thin and I'd hate to risk denting my roof just because I wanted to sleep on it. Why not store your camping gear on the roof rack and buy a hatch style tent and sleep in the back of the Pathfinder? I too love the looks of those rooftop tents but they aren't cheap and I would worry about damaging the sheet metal. Just my two cents.

If I remember correctly the 80lb weight limit is for a moving vehicle. I think, like you said, its capable of far more and that is how RTT's work.

The weight limit covers the downforce/weight transfer of normal driving.
