Code 23

Postby 92pathyV64Dr » Thu Sep 04, 2014 3:03 pm

Have unplugged auto choke as motor keeps over revving. Settles once warmed up but then starts again if stop at lights. Can anyone tell me if there is a sensor there I should be replacing, thanks. 1992 V6 WD21

Code 23 refers to the idle switch, which seems to make sense with your symptoms. Trouble codes aren't intended to tell one whether or not to replace a specific sensor, but to give a direction for diagnosis. To diagnose a 23 idle switch code, one needs to refer to the Nissan factory service manual for the particular vehicle and follow the diagnostic steps provided for a code 23. It "could" be due to a faulty idle switch, but could also be due to a shorted or open wire, poor harness connection, bad ground, etc.
