Same exact issue here. Did it twice last winter, but I thought it was wheel spinning on ice. This year it's even worse. Happens to my wife and me, only in snowy conditions, never when we drive in good conditions.jlwardn wrote:I am having the same exact issue. I live in michigan and it is very bad roads today. I thought it was the vdc and one wheel hitting ice or something. I switched from auto 4x4 to locked 4x4......no change. I then turned off the vdc and still it did same jolt every once in a while. Roads were too bad to try in 4x2 mode. I thought i remembered it did this before last winter a couple times.
I had no issues all summer and towed boat and trailer often without issues.
My wifes says it has never happened to her but she may not be paying attention. It was very bad today.....it happened about 15 times in 25 miles.
Got home and saw similar people describing this with their radiator/trans fluid issue. My coolant is clean proper color and trans fluid cherry red.
117,000 miles.
Glad we chased down the cause!08SEPATHV8 wrote:What a huge help this post was. Driving in a snow storm last night in 4-5 inches of snow on the highway doing 30-35...put the pathy from AUTO to 4HI. Shortly after doing this the truck started to randomly surge or clunk, as described above. This carried on for 30miles of driving in these conditions regardless of whether the truck was in AUTO or 4HI. When we got to our destination I did some research on this forum and quickly found this post suggesting one tire being low on air will cause this binding condition in the 4wd aystem. (Ironically, during our trek while it was acting up I checked the air pressure after we left and noticed one tire was at 25 not 35 like the rest and had planned on filling it when we got where we were going). Sure enough, got her up to 35 and not a single issue on the way home! Fantastic resource and thanks all for the help!!!!!
