HELP! Its winter and my window is stuck in the down position

Postby qek585 » Wed Dec 31, 2014 7:08 pm

Hi everybody. I was wondering if anybody ever had this issue with one of their windows. Last night, I rolled me driver side window down to pay the toll and heard a loud grinding sound as it went down. Now it will not roll up at all. Everytime I would hit the switch, it would move up about 3 inches from the bottom, then go right back down. As of right now, I've taped the window with plastic and hoping it holds, as its new years and most places are closed.

Does anybody have any idea what's going on? Could it be that my windows are stuck with ice? The temp hovers around 25-28 degrees during the day, and it gets stuck sometimes in the up position before, but never in the down position. Is it clogged with ice perhaps? Anybody have any ideas?

Its a 2008 v6, if that helps.

eek grinding doesn't sound good. If you can find somewhere to thaw it out, and see if it resolves, do that. Otherwise I think you will need to pull the interior door off to see if it jumped the track.

sorry man.

Sounds like a bad window regulator, but you would need to pull the door panel and inspect to be sure.

Thanks for the Advice everyone. I think I'll wait for the weather to get warmer and pull out the panel. What exactly would I be looking for?

If it's the regulator, you'll be looking for a broken cable or broken, white plastic parts of the regulator.

You'll also want to check the condition of the window channel rubber run. It's also possible the gear has stripped inside the motor. If the run and the regulator are in good shape, then it's likely the motor.

Sounds like your auto up/down might be getting confused. May be worth while to inspect the window channel for ice. If it looks clear, maybe try unhooking the battery for a little while to see if it resets itself.

Let us know if you figure it out!
