R51 Family friendly?

Postby 00pathySE » Mon Jan 05, 2015 10:58 am

Hello,

Does anyone use they're R51 with children of three or four? I was wondering how easy it would be to have 4 car seats in the back. Can you get to the third row of seats with child seats installed in the 2nd row? (Without removing the 2nd row child seats?) Thanks

The only way we get away with 3 kids in the R51 is that 2 of them are in booster seats only. Even then its tight.

That being said, we enjoy the pathfinder, and would never submit to a minivan... :)

Drove from Mass to Florida and back in winter of 2011 and 2012 in my 06 PF with 2 teens, 2 adults, 2 children and not a single complaint of being uncomfortable. I would say it is definitely family friendly.

I have two kids and have twins on the way. Will have to sell my beloved R50. Was hoping I could get four car seats in there some how without having to move car seats around constantly. Doesn't sound like it's going to work well though. May have to submit to the dreaded minivan. Any other suggestions?

Have you thought about the Armada? I'd go that route before a minivan.

3 kids is no problem. Only 1 in a car seat (sits middle row), my oldest sits middle row, my middle kid sits in back. So we can fold one seat down to carry luggage etc. We've been on 7hr trips to beach with roof top carrier, loaded cargo area in back, and bikes loaded on a bike rack on hitch. So it can carry a load very well. I love it. Oh and we also have a mini van. We go back and forth on which we use on trips.

We have 2 year old twins and a 5 and 7 year old. Yes, 4 kids total. We love the path. It's not as functional for a family as our odyssey was. But the pathfinder has 4wd and a big v8. It's just more fun to drive. The pathfinder doesn't have the space to carry all the kids baggage on roadtrips but it's an easy fix. Get a Roof carrier and you're golden.
