Hatch will not lock -FIXED-

Postby SETI20 » Tue Mar 31, 2015 10:09 pm

I just found out that my hatch does not lock at all. Neither via the key fob nor via the key in the drivers side door. The hatch glass will not lock either.

All doors are locked both via the remote and via the drivers side door key.

I also have the impression that the car is throwing me an error. When it locks, the indicators blink quickly. I just bought the car, so I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

Reading through other topics, I gathered that the rear doors and hatch are all linked, so if the problem were electrical, I should have a problem with the doors too. Can someone confirm?

Could it be as simple as a seized actuator on the hatch? What's the best approach to analyze this?

Well, this was probably one of the easiest fixes on any of my cars, ever.

I found a little access panel and saw right away that when I tried to lock/unlock the hatch, that the latch you can see on the inside wasn't moving much.

I pulled off the rear hatch panel (note: open the hatch glass, or you'll be confused for a few minutes) and found the actuator dangling loose. No bolts to be found, and the aren't rattling around in the hatch, either.

Testing with the remote, the actuator itself works just fine.

I only had fancy bolts around with the proper thread. So be it.

With complex jobs like this, proper supervision is imperative.

Snapped the panel back on, done.
