shaking lady they say its tires...

Postby patomwazi » Wed Apr 01, 2015 9:27 pm

Querry..... can tire casing deform or go out of shape..?!?!.
I have been running Cooper Discoverer AT3 for over a year plus...amazing tires off and on...quiet, not heavy, not to soft compound so hard wearing but not to hard to squirm when needed, good footprint spread when deflated unlike the super costy BFGs ATS that everyone goes for...(all this personal experience that could be refuted)...anyway..ran the same size as OEM but with about just over half the tread left my cat has been shaking when driving on roads at highway speeds.. and after going through all the checks and all..its gone down to tires and dont seem to be able to balance them as when the wheel goes on the machine...it appears to be bobbing up and down...and 3rd time now the tire ppl and the mechs(4 different ones after checking all susp and drivetrain components) say its the tire casing deformed...anyone has had this particular problem with these tires or should i stop driving on roads...really loving these tires as i had STTs and those were just plain...$H!T....
Am also surprised non of the mechs has mentioned U-joints....

I havent heard anything about them doing that. I have the same tires (albeit only about 2-3000 miles) and they do make a little noise but nothing extreme.

With the way the tread pattern is big and blocky, I'd imagine chopping and feathering of the tread is probably easy to do. As long as you dont have separated belts, I dont see any reason to take them off.

You might also see about a tread warranty. I think they have like a 50k/60k warranty. I dont have a single clue how to do that though.

Yes it does happen,it is caused by the belting shifting inside the tire. Very common with some of the cheaper brand tires. High end tires(michelin, bfg ,nitto) use a different kind of belt structure to prevent this from happening. No matter how much balancing you do it will continue to vibrate. The shake comes from the up and down movement in the tire. Hope this helps.
