4wd or 4x4?

Anything automotive in nature, be it Nissan or one of those "other" manufacturers.

Our pathfinder's that have 4 wheel drive what is the correct abbreviation? I see both and it's bugging me that I can't figure it out. Lol.

Thanks!

I'm not aware of an international standard on the use of those terms.

I've heard folks argue that part-time systems are 4x4 and systems capable of full-time (LE models) are 4wd. Others would argue the full-time system should be called AWD. But really, unless you want to make it far more complicated than is necessary, they both are reasonable and I've probably typed it both ways.
