I'm not aware of what the actual issue is that causes the noise, but, I do know the part has been updated. For that reason, I would not go with used parts. Why replace a faulty part with another potentially faulty part? I suppose you could disconnect the rear shaft, but I would imagine that would have an affect on your VDC if you should ever need it, The only option I can recommend it to fix it right with the updated part, albeit, that's a pretty expensive part.
