New member looking at the V8s'

Postby Path21 » Sat Jan 07, 2017 3:17 pm

Hey guys good to join ya!

Wife had a 07 new and needed a better mpg SUV. This was about 5 years ago. When I heard that Nissan was slapping in a V8 into this thing I was surprised they could fit it in for one.
I'm pretty much a car guy, but remembering the Pathfinder and the V8 option.....(add living in the lake effect snow land), I'm looking at getting one.
Unfortunately I read about the radiator failures with the contamination of coolant and trans oil. Did they fix this after 2010? Was 2012 the last year of the V8?
Been looking online for one. A lot of 08 vs 10 and 12 years. Miles from high 90's to 120's going for 10-11K. If the radiator has been replaced prior to it failing, is that the total fix from a failing engine and transmission?
I just like the looks of the V8 vs the 6 in terms of the wheels and overall stoutness. Plus this is a true 4WD vs my wifes 13 Explorer with wannabe 4WD prowess. I'll post in appropriate forums should I make the jump. Just wanted to do an intro. first. Thanks

I have a 2011 and haven't had any issues. There was a redesign, but I don't know if it truly extended back to all 2010s. And yes, no V8s with the new model R52 in 2013.

Post 2010s are safe form rad issue.. some say only MY 11 and 12..

Only R51 have the V8s . R51s go to 2012.

The problem with the rad is a small one.. A radiator costs 100 dollars.
Easy fix. when you buy a used R15 Pathfinder (or Xterra, Or Frontier) just replace the radiator right away.
Its a trivial cost.

Older vehicles need new radiators anyway for good cooling.

I don't think the V8's had the radiator issues the V6 R51's had. Although I think they have other issues like cracked exhaust manafolds are common. When SMJ chimes in he can tell us what issues the V8's have.
