Blinking airbag light... think I know why but can't solve it

Postby oreogaborio » Wed May 24, 2017 3:46 pm

Hi all,

So... 2012 Pathfinder, blinking airbag light... it started after I tried jamming a safe under the seat. There are three connectors that reside under the seat on the left side near the seat controls (up down forward back, etc).

The big white connector seems to supply power.

The yellow connector I THINK powers the side airbags in the seat?

The small white connector seems to be for the seat belt light.

First question: Are my assumptions above correct? I think so but want to make sure.

Second question: I tried testing the continuity of the yellow (airbag?) connector and it really seems to be fine... I'm not sure what's causing the airbag light to blink, but I'm almost certain that's the issue.

Is there anything else I should consider here? I'm almost certain that this issue was caused by me trying to jam something under the seat as the only two times it's become an issue is when I did that...

Any other suggestions?

Airbag harnesses are yellow. Be careful when checking these circuits and make sure the battery has been disconnected for at least 10 mins to avoid potentially triggering the air bags. It would be best to have the codes read and use the diagnostics in the factory service manual as a guide. Nissan air bag system diagnostics are pretty straight forward, usually, and they usually call for part replacement rather than part repair...and that includes wiring harnesses.

Crisis averted!

Did a little more googling & found a procedure for resetting the light.

Ignition "on" until the light starts blinking, then ignition immediately off. Wait a second or two...

Oui la! No more airbag light. 8)

Flashing airbag sensor light.

So I have had the same issue. Tried the reset procedure and it worked for about a day and then the light started flashing again. Any ideas what the issue may be, or what other remedies can be pursued?

Getting kinda frustrating.

Thanks in advance.

First, I would make sure there are no outstanding recalls or campaigns for your vehicle, specifically those that are related to air bag issues. You can contact your Nissan dealer with your VIN# and they can check, or go to Nissan North America's site and you can check there. If there are no outstanding recalls or campaigns, you'll need to get the SRS codes retrieved to point you in a direction. There seem to be a number of clockspring failures with some R51 Pathfinders and D40 Frontiers lately.

I echo what SMJ says.

I just bought myself a fancy new code reader that does ABS and SRS codes, as well as OBD codes.

$129 at the local canadian tire. I recommend investing in one!

Terry In Winnipeg - thanks for your post. Which brand OBD reader, model did you get at Cdn Tire that reads airbags and SRS codes?

I think my code error is 12.

Thanks.

Hey there,

The code reader I got was a Innova 3100j:

https://www.innova.com/en-US/Product/De ... 2383303195

I just went on the Can Tire website, and it doesn't seem to show up on there anymore. They have the 3100i, but it doesn't do SRS Codes...

The 3100j was on sale a few weeks ago, when I started having ABS code issues, so I snatched it up. Its been great!

Terry, you scored big time!

I can get that unit for almost $300 now - I think I will wait for a sale.

Thanks for your input.

Use the Canadian Tire app on your phone, you can set it to notify you when the item goes on sale.

Also, sometimes people sell them after they use them once or twice on Kijiji.

I also wonder if any of the Bluetooth Elm327 adapters out there do ABS/SRS codes. They tend to be pretty inexpensive, less than $50.

Or this one I just found on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.ca/BlueDriver-Blueto ... ode+reader

or most of these (verify SRS functionality):

https://www.amazon.ca/s/?ie=UTF8&keywor ... wv6xzs5y_b

good luck!

I picked up the Innova 3100j for $86 USD on Amazon. Brand new unit.

Very happy with the price and the unit.
