VDC Light comes on intermittantly and engine dies

Postby txcatsailor01 » Wed Jun 07, 2017 3:10 pm

To preface this, my son inherited my old 06 Path 4X4 with about 210K now. So, for the last 10K-12K it has had the love and detailed attention of a 17 year old boy.... :o
On occasion the VDC/Slip light will illuminate and it has died a couple of times while he is driving. The reason I am suspicious is that he and his buddy went 4-wheeling a couple of months ago and broke two rear shocks. Now, I am to the point to where I suspect there may be other damage.

Anyone have some insight as to what could be going on??

If an engine management problem occurs, the ECM may disable the traction control system, causing the VDC/Slip warning lights to come on. I would suspect and faulty cam position sensor (there are two) or crank position sensor, in that order. Sometimes they fail and won't trigger a code, however, I would start by checking for stored codes in the ECM.
