Rough Idle and SES Light After Plugs, Belt, Tensioner

Postby heckler40 » Sun Sep 03, 2017 8:50 am

Replaced plugs tensioner and belt today and started it for the first time. The car idles around 900rpm but is really rough. Also, SES light comes on after the car has been running for 10 minutes.

Havent done anything else such as a ecu reset or idle air volume learn. Note that there was a little dust inside the MAF housing as throttle body and wiped it carefully. Didn't clean either one.

When I push the gas pedal, it surges like it's got a vacuum leak. And, VDC Off light is on.

Really surprised. Should it be this rough? Next steps?

edit1 - should say I had the battery disconnected during all the procedures.

did you remove the intake plenum in order to access the spark plugs?

I did but not completely off. Didn't even take the brake vacuum off.

I'd suggest that you check for vaccum leaks and/or mis-connected hoses in the related areas.

Code is 0300.

Guess I'll take it back apart and redo all the plugs? Make sure the packs are on?

You could have one or more plug boots that didn't get back together properly. They are pretty inexpensive, I keep 1 or 2 for spare purposes when I do my plugs because inevitably I break 1 and don't want to be stuck.

I'll have to see if anyone has a local part then I can order the Denso ones. Need them soon :)

From Rock Auto, the OEMs are $50 for my year. From Nissan dealer $100 each.

Is there any way to test these? Continuity test? Do they have voltage without sparking?

You just need the boot, not the whole coil.

Replaced all six and still get a 0300. Any other well known items?

did you install NGK OEM spark plugs, and since there apparently have been some counterfeit plugs on the market, are you sure they're genuine NGK?

What kind of plugs did you use?

OEM laser iridiums - DILFR5A–11. Bought from Rock Auto.

Spark plug model in my manual is DILFR5A–11. Verified the ones taken out are the same. They are.

Thinking this through, checking for a leak may be my next step. I've felt all around all hoses and visually checked the best I can. My gut is telling me the sound when pressing the accelerator could be the engine pulling in additional air. I checked the drivers side but can't check the passenger side due to everything in the way.

Maybe I hit the intake collector gasket? Here's a link to the video. Input appreciated.
