metal bumper 2006 - 2012 compatibility

Postby buturugu » Thu Mar 29, 2018 5:43 pm

I found a cheap metal bumper from a 2006 Pathfinder.

I know the front of the newer model (2010+) is 3 inches longer but I thought that maybe the metal bumper would fit. Everywhere they sell 2 different versions depending on the year.

Anybody have any info on this?

In the US, it was 2008 when they extended the nose 3-inches for the V8 option, so 2005-2007 and 2008-2012. Not sure if that's the same in the non-US countries?

In Europe, the newer model with modified grill and slightly elongated headlights went in production sometime in 2010.

In thought that since they haven't changed anything to the chassis, the mounting points should be the same for both versions so the bumper should fit.

Maybe someone tried something similar and knows for sure.

Well, I've done some comparisons between a US Nissan site and a major parts company in the US, Rockauto.com. Using this link to refer to part code "51010," which they call the "member assembly-1st cross," Rockauto shows it fitting 2005-2009 Pathfinder and 2007-2015 Xterra, which seems kind of odd because one would think that the earlier Xterra would be a fit as well and taking into account that the US went to the extended noise in 2008. Further searching does confirm, however, that they used a different part number on the Xterra up to March, 2007, and they use a different part number on the Pathfinder starting September, 2008. So, take that information for what it's worth!

Now on the next part diagram, referring to part code "62242," called the "retainer-front," it is specific to 2005-2007 Pathfinders, meaning the part changed when they extended the nose in 2008 models:

Rockauto also shows that the bumper mounting brackets, the parts that extend from the frame to the bumper support member, are also specific to the 2008-2012 models; the Nissan site confirms those same parts are different on the 2005-2007 models.

So, I don't know if this information helps you or gives you more questions! It looks at least like there were some specific changes to certain parts other than the bumper cover/grille/headlights when they went to the extended nose design.

Thanks for the info. It seems more complicated than I thought.

The only way to know for sure would be if someone actually tried something like this before. Maybe a bumper, the grill or the headlights.

Xterra never came to Europe, it seems it was strictly made for the American continent.

If nothing useful comes up maybe I I'll see it for myself, if I get some money to experience with. Problem is that since the metal bumper is used, there's no way of returning it.
