Does the engine need the alternator to start?

Hey so I have a 92 Pathfinder SE 3.0L V6 and the engine with turn over but won't start. So my question is does the alternator need to be working in order for the engine to start??

No, but if the alternator's not working and doesn't charge the battery, it can drain the battery and cause a "no start" condition. For your vehicle to start (and by this I simply mean "crank the engine"...there are a whole lot of other things required to get the engine to "fire" and run), you need a good battery and cables with clean connections. You need a good starter and power to the starter solenoid when the ignition switch is turned to "START."
